Thunder Bay Premier Squash League

Looking for some good, competitive squash this fall?

The Thunder Bay Premier Squash League is a new team-based league for players looking for regular competitive matches in a fun but challenging format. This league is designed for higher-skilled players looking for regular, competitive matches against some of Thunder Bay’s stronger squash players.

The league will consist of up to six teams of three players, with teams balanced according to Club Locker ratings. Matches will take place Thursday evenings at the Canada Games Complex.

  • Prize money will be awarded to the top team(s), with remaining league funds going toward an end-of-season social.

How Teams Will be Selected

Players will be ranked according to their Club Locker rating, with teams built to create as much competitive balance as possible.

Assuming a full field of 18 players:

  • The top six rated players will each be placed on separate teams
  • The bottom six players will then be paired with the top six in reverse order — the highest-rated player will be paired with the lowest-rated player, second-highest with second-lowest and so on
  • The remaining six players will be selected through a draft
  • Draft order will be determined randomly, with teams drawn from a hat
  • Once teams are formed, each team will have a No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 player based on rating.

Teams will be announced on Thursday September 24th at 8pm

Weekly Matches

Each team will play another team each week.

Players will normally compete against the corresponding player on the opposing team:

  • No. 1 vs. No. 1
  • No. 2 vs. No. 2
  • No. 3 vs. No. 3

Matches should generally be played from the lowest-ranked players to the highest-ranked players, although teams are welcome to arrange a different order when needed.

Players who are not competing at the time will help referee matches.

Spares

Can’t make a week? Teams may use a spare player. It is the team’s responsibility to arrange a spare when one of its players is unavailable. If a replacement cannot be found, the match will be forfeited. Spare players:

  • Cannot already be registered members of another league team
  • Pay $10 per match (etransfer to nickpersichino@gmail.com)
  • Are responsible for their own facility admission or membership
If you would like to participate as a spare only, indicate that on the registration form and include your Club Locker rating.

Schedule

The plan is to begin Thursday, October 1 and play for five consecutive Thursdays.

The league will then pause around the NWO Squash Tournament, November 18–22, 2026.

Players will decide together when to begin the second half of the schedule. Depending on the group, that could be shortly after the tournament or following the Christmas break.

Team Sponsorship

Teams are welcome to pursue sponsorship from a local business if they wish.

Sponsorship money can be used toward things such as team shirts, uniforms or other team expenses.
