Looking for some good, competitive squash this fall/winter?
The Thunder Bay Premier Squash League is a new team-based league for players looking for regular competitive matches in a fun but challenging format. This league is designed for higher-skilled players looking for regular, competitive matches against some of Thunder Bay’s stronger squash players.
For our inaugural season, the league consists of 4 teams of three players, with teams balanced according to Club Locker ratings. Matches will take place Thursday evenings at the Canada Games Complex.
After Week 2 (Oct 8):
- .Team Cameron: 24 points
2. Rally Dogs (Bob): 21 points
3. Boasting Bulldogs (Angelo): 20 points
4. The Retrievers (Nick): 19 points
- Start date: Thursday, October 1, 2026
- Time: Thursday evenings, approximately 8:00–9:45 p.m.
- Location: Canada Games Complex
- Courts: 1, 3 and 4
- League length: Will be based on number of teams and will be adjusted year to year but for inaugural season we will run for 12 weeks plus an additional 2 weeks for playoffs
- Cost: $100 per player – e-transfer to nickpersichino@gmail.com and indicate your name in the Note section
- Facility admission or membership is not included in the league fee
- Prize money will be awarded to the top team(s), with remaining league funds going toward an end-of-season social.
General Format
Players will be ranked according to their Club Locker rating with teams built to create as much competitive balance as possible.
Assuming a full field of 18 players:
- The top six rated players will each be placed on separate teams
- The bottom six players will then be paired with the top six in reverse order — the highest-rated player will be paired with the lowest-rated player, second-highest with second-lowest and so on
- The remaining six players will be selected through a draft
- Draft order will be determined randomly, with teams drawn from a hat
- Once teams are formed, each team will have a No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 player based on rating.
Each team will play another team each week.
Players will normally compete against the corresponding player on the opposing team:
- No. 1 vs. No. 1
- No. 2 vs. No. 2
- No. 3 vs. No. 3
Matches should generally be played from the lowest-ranked players to the highest-ranked players, although teams are welcome to arrange a different order when needed.
Players who are not competing at the time will help referee matches.
Subs
Can’t make a week? Teams may use a sub/spare player.
It is the team’s responsibility to arrange a spare when one of its players is unavailable. If a replacement cannot be found, the match will be forfeited.
Subs:
- Cannot already be registered members of another league team
- Are responsible for their own facility admission or membership
